History

Optische Anstalt C.P. Goerz AG was founded in Berlin, Germany by Carl Paul Goerz. In 1926, the company merged with Contessa-Nettel AG, Heinrich Ernemann AG, and Ica AG to form ZEISS IKON AG, in Dresden. ZEISS IKON then patented the profiled double cylinder (EURO profile cylinder) in 1928.[1]

In 1991, ZEISS IKON divided their optics and security technology into separate companies. IKON AG Präzisionstechnik was purchased by ABLOY Oy. When Abloy joined ASSA, in 1994, IKON became part of the ASSA-ABLOY AB. IKON AG changed its name to IKON GmbH Präzisionstechnik in 2003.
