Master Lock No1

A Master Lock Commercial, one of the different varieties of Master Lock No 1.

The Master Lock No 1 is a very common low security laminated padlock made by Master Lock. Due to the availability of these locks, the price, and the multiple styles they come in, Master No 1 is one of the most common padlocks found in America today.

Pins

The M1 cylinder is a pin tumbler lock with 4 pin stacks. It does NOT contain any security pins unless otherwise modified.

Key

The Master 1 padlock almost always uses the M1 key blank, but also can be made with a slightly different key profile. This change in profile helps to stop people from making copies of keys they shouldn't have.

Gutting Your Padlock

Although like most laminated padlocks the Master No1 is not meant to be taken apart, it can be opened up by grinding/cutting down the rivets on the bottom of the lock and prying off the bottom plate. This technique can be used to make keys for keyed alike padlocks when impressioning is not a possibility.
