Corbin Russwin is an American lock manufacturer that produces low and medium security padlocks and lock cylinders. The company is a combination of the older Corbin and Russwin brands, both of which primarily produced pin-tumbler lock designs. Corbin Russwin is owned by ASSA-Abloy.

History

Russwin was founded in 1839 by Henry Russell and Cornelius Erwin. Corbin was founded in 1849 by Phillip Corbin, Frank Corbin, and Ed Doen. In 1902 the two companies merged to form The American Hardware Corporation.[1] The American Hardware Corporation was eventually acquired by Emhart Industries in 1964. In 1989, in order to resist a two billion dollar takeover attempt by a New York investment group (which included oil heir Gordon P. Getty), Emhart merged with Black & Decker Corporation.[2] The Corbin and Russwin product lines were merged, forming Corbin Russwin.

Corbin Russwin was acquired by ASSA-Abloy in 2000. [3]

The Corbin brand is still individually marketed in certain parts of the world, particularly Italy.[4]
