History

Medeco was founded in Roanoke County, Virginia in 1968 by members of a tool and die shop called Mechanical Development Company; shortened to "Medeco".[1] The company's original invention was a pin-tumbler lock that required pins to be raised and rotated properly to allow the lock to open. This principle came to be known as axial rotation. The majority of Medeco's product line evolved from and focuses on this principle.

In 1997 Medeco began producing electronic locks in the form of the Medeco SiteLine.
